Nusa Dua is a man-made complex built on the south-east of the island on the Bukit Peninsula. It’s the toytown of Bali, with five star luxury hotels and conference centres, as well as a number of international restaurants, a golf course, a supermarket, and perfectly manicured gardens. The best way to describe it is like something out of Stepford Wives; It is very artificial, sterile, and free of Balinese traders. Nusa Dua has gates manned by security guards and you’ll have to go through a security check before you can enter the resort. If you want to stay somewhere completely void of all Balinese culture and tradition, then Nusa Dua is the place for you. That being said, Nusa Dua does have long, white sandy beaches perfect for swimming. The public beach is called Pantai Geger so if you’re backpacking in Bali and not staying in one of the luxury resorts, this beach still has some Balinese character with beachside warungs and massage ladies.
Getting there: Follow the Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai from Kuta/The Airport and keep going until the end when you’ll arrive at Nusa Dua, simple!
